LucasArts' Maniac Mansion gets 3D makeover

Classic point-and-click LucasArts adventure game Maniac Mansion has been treated to a remake (sort of) by German developers GameStudio.
Unlike the Monkey Island re-imagining by Telltale Games, which was authorised by LucasArts, this all-new Maniac Mansion seems to be small-scale and unofficial but the giant tentacles are present!
Re-packaged as Meteor Mess 3D, the original characters appear but in un-pixelated form, complete with an available alpha-version demo download from the games' community site.
As reported on GamePro.com the Meteor Mess guys say the game was developed especially for a retro games remake contest.

With Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island and Sam & Max getting makeovers in recent times, we can only hope that the point-and-click Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis will get the same treatment, and perhaps Grim Fandango will get a spooky sequel.
