Consumer Electronics Show lights up Las Vegas

Taking place in Las Vegas this week, the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) will be a stellar event, with new technologies set to be showcased.
From 7-10 January, 2010, more than 2,800 exhibitors will descend upon the glitz of Las Vegas to unleash their new technological innovations to the world. Some 20,000 new products will be on display, with apps, green technologies and gaming being some of the select categories.
What's on at the CES
The iLounge Pavilion will feature all items iPod, iMac and iPhone related, while Green Planet will showcase the latest green technologies encompassing advancements in smart grid, green building and alternative energy technologies.
Over the years, the CES has featured new technologies long before they hit the marketplace. The VCR, the compact disc player and Blu-ray, for instance, were all first glimpsed at the CES.
This year, some of the latest trends and emerging markets in the areas of e-books, lifestyle gadgets, mobile DTV and netbooks will be ones to watch out for.
At the forefront
New innovations in 3D TVs, tablet computers, Blu-ray players, wireless networks and in-car technologies and storage devices are also predicted to take centre stage at the event.
Keynote speakers at the 2010 CES will be Steve Ballmer, CEO, Microsoft; Alan Mulally, president and CEO, Ford; Paul Otellini, president and CEO Intel; Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, president and CEO, Nokia; Dr Paul Jacobs, chairman and CEO, Qualcomm; and Zhou Houjian, chairman, Hisense.
