Panasonic's giant Lumix descends on Dublin
11.12.2009

Don't worry, giants are not taking over Dublin city this weekend, this is just one humongous Lumix DMC-ZX1 digital camera that Panasonic has placed in Jervis Shopping Centre for one specific purpose.
The giant Lumix DMC-ZX1 weighs a staggering 160kg and took a team of six artists more than five weeks to create, but it's not just a piece of art - it's a working camera: there is a camcorder inside the sculpture and a Panasonic 1,030-inch plasma screen will be the camera's LCD screen.
Say 'cheese!'
The idea is to get shoppers to pose in front of the giant Lumix, take their pics and put them up on the Panasonic Facebook Page, where the best ones will win Jervis Centre shopping vouchers.
The giant camera arrived at Jervis yesterday and will be there for the competition until Sunday, 13 December.
"The giant camera sculpture is a spectacular piece of work and we are very excited to bring it to Ireland. The inclusion of a camcorder inside the lens of the camera allows the sculpture to operate as a normal camera which should cause a bit of a stir in the Jervis Shopping Centre over the weekend," said Michael O'Shea, general manager at Panasonic Ireland.
