Twitter confirms paid-for pro accounts
23.11.2009

Paid-for business accounts will be rolling out sometime next year on popular micro-blogging service Twitter - the first direct revenue stream the company has incorporated following recent syndication deals with both Google and Microsoft to have real-time tweets show up in the companies' search-engine results.
These new commercial accounts will not affect the existing free Twitter accounts available for both individuals and businesses, said co-founder Biz Stone in an interview with the BBC.
Instead, the paid-for accounts will offer "a special layer of access", including statistics and analytics to help a corporation better understand how they are using the service.
Expansion plans
In addition to this, Stone said the start-up has more plans to monetise and expand services, including plans to syndicate content with companies other than Google and Microsoft.
When asked by the BBC about media partnerships following Twitter's success as a real-time platform for breaking news, Stone said there was always the possibility for this and went on to say that Rupert Murdoch's plans to charge for online news should be allowed to "fail fast".
